While working in a metal works shop and not happy with the way he kept burning steaks on an open brazier outdoor grill, George Stephen developed the now-famous kettle grill. Fashioned from half of a metal buoy with a top made of metal, he took it home and soon became famous in his neighborhood for what is now known as the Weber barbecue grill.
Working through various designs to perfect his grill, Stephen soon had the kettle grills on the market in 1952 for around $50 each while other grills were selling for less than $10. The results would speak for themselves and Weber eventually bought the metal plant and went to work full time designing and selling Weber barbecue grills. As the company grew and flourished the line was expanded to include gas grill to complement its charcoal grills.
The company has also expanded in other areas concerning grilling making Weber barbecue a complete grouping of supplies to help just about anyone serve the best barbeque in the neighborhood. From the Weber charcoal grilling cook book to the Weber barbecue spices and marinades, the company can supply most of what is needed to provide quality and flavor to barbequed foods.
Accessories Help Make Barbequing More Fun
For those whose celebrations last until after dark there is no more need to hold a flashlight to see the food on the grill. There are many Weber barbecue grills equipped with cordless lights built into the hood the grill as well as some designed to fit onto existing grill handles. While many Weber barbecue grills are available with a built in side burner, there are accessories available to add one as a retrofit device.
Weber barbecue grills covers are also designed to fit snugly over many of the company’s grills as well as those from other manufacturers. They can protect the grills from weather and help keep them clean and in proper operating condition. By keeping the grill covered there should be no surprises under the lid when its raised to cook.
To keep a Weber barbecue cooking as expected, charcoal grill grates should be cleaned before and after each use. When done cooking, once the coals have cooled, use a brass wire brush to remove loose particle from the grate. They can also be cleaned with warm soapy water or with a steel wool pad with imbedded soap. All the ashes should be removed after each use to keep vent holes clean and open to allow smooth airflow the next time the grill is used.
