As long as there has been pain, there has been someone wanting to get rid of it. You really shouldn’t visit a chiropractor unless you are in some sort of pain. There’s just not much of a point otherwise. Although not considered conventional medicine, the chiropractor and pain management has been mentioned as far back as Hippocrates, the “father” of modern medicine.
What’s Old Is New Again
Many ancient systems of healing included physical manipulation of some sort. Any massage therapies stimulate the tissues and muscles like in chiropractic therapies, but purposefully avoid the spine. If you’ve ever seen the kind of vigorous massage called Turkish, (let alone lived through it) you have definitely seen the forerunner of modern chiropractic and pain management procedures.
In traditional Turkish massage, which has been around for a few hundred years, arguably, you are stripped naked in a steam bath, pummeled, walked on, sung about like a dead cat, scrubbed and rinsed. Apparently, you feel great afterwards. Even Westerners who balk at seeing the previous patient get swung about claim they feel great after their own massage. You couldn’t pay this writer enough.
The Official Start Of Chiropractic And Pain Management
A modern chiropractor and pain-relieved patients who benefit from him or her often point to the Father of Chiropractic treatment as Dr. D.D. Palmer, who adjusted his first spine for pain management in 1895. He usually did magnetic healing but turned to manipulating body parts. Another of his patients did the chiropractor and pain manager a favor by giving his kind of treatment a name. Taken from two Greek words, chiropractor roughly translates to “done by the hand”.
The first and second chiropractor and pain mangers – the afore-mentioned Dr. Palmer and his son – had launched an area where no one else wanted to tread. They were treated as miraculous healers and as dangerous quacks, depending on who was around. They started a college to train the chiropractor and pain mangers in Davenport, Iowa.
Now, there are more than 10,000 chiropractors around the world, with about 25 chiropractor and pain instruction centers. There are even chiropractors and chiropractic clinics in Turkey, as well as other parts of Asia. There is also a chiropractor clinic in Turkey, Texas.
Does It Hurt?
The chiropractor and pain manager is more painful in your wallet than in your body. Chiropractors do have to have years of medical training. They also need a state license.
