Before going out and finding a chiropractor, millions of Americans ask themselves if they really need to go see a doctor or if it’s just something that will pass in a few days. While some aches and pains do come and go on their own, there are others that need to be seen by a medial professional in order to nip it in the bud and to diagnose or prevent something more serious from happening.

Err on the Side of Caution

Chiropractors are termed primary care physicians in many regards as they are the first people you may turn to if you have neck, back, shoulder pain. You know it is time to find a chiropractor when you suffer from any or all of these symptoms. After all it is better to err on the side of caution. It is better for the doctor to say you’re fine and there is no need for treatment as opposed to your condition deteriorating and the doctor wishing you had approached him before it got so bad.

Symptoms to Watch Out for

If your neck or back pain is persistent for four weeks or has gotten worse and is not alleviated by typical pain relievers like acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin), then it does mean that you require medical attention. Also, if you are experiencing pain after a trauma such as a car accident or work injury, see a doctor as soon as possible. If you have abdominal pain, blood in your urine, other symptoms like nausea and fatigue or sharp excruciating pain on one side or while sleeping in a particular angle, it is symptomatic enough to find a chiropractor.

You could find a chiropractor by going the traditional route of checking the yellow pages or online directories. However, it is always safer to find out if your health insurance covers chiropractic care. Some do not; but others do cover part of the expense provided you go to one of their listed preferred providers. However, the best way to find a chiropractor is to ask for referrals from friends or family.

Although all chiropractic doctors are required to be licensed and qualified to the highest degree, some have more of the “magic healing touch” than others. The office ambience, hours, location and of course prices also come in to play. Ask around if anyone has had a positive experience and see if you can find that chiropractor to help you lead a pain-free life.
